One of the biggest problems faced by smart phones of today is terrible battery life. Most of the Smartphone batteries last about half a day. And we often had to charge our phone twice a day. And because of this we often keep our phone on charge and forget about it and later realize that the phone is kept on charging the whole night.
But can we overcharge our phone?
And does overcharging damage our Smartphone?
This is a very old myth and was true for old phones. But today's phones are smart and have components that know when to stop passage of flow into Smartphone, even when the phone is turned off. So it’s safe to keep it charging along your bedside. However you shouldn't to save power.
One thing you must be worried about is battery temperature. When you’re charging your phone it’s supposed to heat up a little, that’s just simple chemistry. But if you keep your phone at compact places or use a insulating battery cover it might heat up, not that it’s dangerous. Your phone will stop charging when device gets too hot and even turn it off. One guy even put his note 7 in oven while charger plugged it. the phone stopped charging. But if your phone is warm constantly it may reduce its lifespan
You should also use a branded charger as off market chargers may cause current surge to devices and often times doesn’t even have earthing/grounding
