Android M developer preview - UI changes

Google released the Android 'm' dev preview just after the google i/o for developers. As they showcased there aren't any major UI changes to system this is more of a polishing update. Saying that there are some subtle changes or also can be called as bug fixes First up they finally figured out the volume slider and is not sorted and easy to understand. Turning down volume down activates vibrate and further pressing the volume down button triggers DND mode. There is also a quick toggle for DND Another (major) UI change is the app drawer. This time it's continuous vertical scrolling this is the first time in stock android to see vertical scrolling. There is also a search bar for apps. Today at Google I/O, they announced a developer preview of the next version of Android, the M release. Last year’s developer preview was a first for Android and received great feedback this year you'll receive more OTA updates than on lollipop preview M release is focused on improving the core user experience of Android, from fixing thousands of bugs, to making some big changes to the fundamentals of the platform: Permissions  - google is giving users control of app permissions in the M release. Apps can trigger requests for permissions at runtime, in the right context, and users can choose whether to grant the permission. Making permission requests right when they’re needed means users can get up and running in your app faster. Also, users have easy access to manage all their app permissions in settings. New maps updates replaces black status bar with transparent one- apk available

The most recent build of maps for android  removes the top black status bar and replaced it with the transparent bar. Which suits the whole material UI. The update will make its way to playstore very soon but you can grab the apk here

chrome beta will now ask you do replace duplicate file entries

If you download a file and there happens to be a file of the same name already in your downloads directory, Chrome asks if you want to replace it. The behavior in Chrome for Android prior to v43 is that duplicate files are renamed as somefilename(1), somefilename(2), and so on. This is also available on chrome dev app for android. and will make its way to the stable build of the app very soon

Cyanogen partners with Truecaller to bring smart caller ID to Cyanogen OS devices

The folks over at Cyanogen have just announced a partnership with Truecaller which will eventually bring web-enabled caller ID functionality into smartphones running Cyanogen OS. Truecaller integration will make its way to devices via an OS update over the next few months, and will actually be part of the Cyanogen OS dialer. You’ll be able to opt in or out of the new feature once you start up your device. If you choose to opt in, Truecaller will supposedly be able to look up the number that’s calling you, even if that number isn’t saved in your contacts, in less than a second. In addition, Truecaller will let you know how many people have marked a certain phone number as spam, so you can decide whether to pick up the call or not.

Google now now supports 70 more third party apps

Google added third party app integration to the service back in January with around 40 partners at the start,Google has just added support for 70 new third party applications. Google now will analyze your locations and other data and will display necessary information from the google now. you can now also make commands with all these apps like if you say - shazam this song. it will start recording song and many more. the functionality is limitless. here is the list of all apps google partnered with Now cards will start showing up within the next few weeks. you'll need the latest version will roll out soon

Microsoft explains the "continuum" feature of windows across mobile and desktop devices

microsoft posted a video which explains how the continuum feature will give a uniform experience to the consumer. with the apps which can be scaled to be used with big screens, mouse and a keyboard. developers will have to make this in their code. Also users will be able to use their mobile apps and use phone for another task simultaneously without killing first task. this will require new hardware support so old phones running 8.1 wont support multi screen scaling apps. but this looks very promising though.
