iPhone from the first have always used LCD they were the one of the first manufacturers who made the touchscreen interface for phones. The display resolution have increased every generation but the main technology have always remained the same. The use LCD as display which are great as they produce most accurate colors, temperature and have good brightness. But there are few drawbacks too. LCDs have terrible dynamic range because of the back lighting. Plus they are less efficient as compared to AMOLEDs. Samsung has made use of the dimming technology as ultra saving mode.
In OLED displays a LED represent every pixel which can shut down of its own allowing great contrast and power saving

But there are rumors of the iPhone 6s too which makes the whole claim false. Do you they should make switch from LCD to OLED
