Lollipop update 5.1 - what's new

so google released 5.1 factory images for nexus devices on their developer site. The update contains some very important bug fixes and some new features. Here's the first impressions on Android lollipop 5.1


- first thing you notice is the changed quick toggles for WiFi & Bluetooth. They now have a drop down menu which can be used to see near devices without going into the app.

- new animation in volume slider

- there are some new animations which are subtle but makes the UI more smooth

- you can now delete contacts easily without pressing edit. (View how to delete contacts in 5.0 vs 5.1)

- The Android 5.1 SDK brings the platform to API Level 22, which provides the API that supports multiple SIM cards and enhances enterprise features.

- it also has a new protected devices mode.

- support for multiple Sim cards & HD voice

- it will fix crashing of SMS & dialer apps

- fix for memory leak leading to random reboots

- LED notification now works in all modes including silent mode

- you can now hide the hotspot & invert color toggles by long pressing the toggles


- improved screen pinning

- fixed bugs in the heads up notifications - now you can swipe up to collapse and fixed bugs in normal notifications

- option for 'no interruptions in the priority mode' added

- WiFi bugs fixed

- apps now directly open after installing or updating
