Amateur's guide to torrent

Torrents, aka 'bittorrents', are pointer files that help you locate dozens of other users' computers. You then connect to those private computers with your special torrent software, and copy their music and movie files to your own computer.


to download files via a torrent you'll need




  • a bittorent client like utorrent. these files read '.torrent' files and read the information written in them
  • a torrent website to provide you .torrent files. like pirate bay or kickass torrent. many of the times these are shut because of copyright issues

  1. Trackers - A “tracker” is a server that assists in directing peers, initiated downloads, and maintaining statistics. Trackers route little pieces of data, or packets, to downloaders and assist them in connecting to their fellow peers
  2. Seeders - Once you’re done downloading, you become a “seeder” and you continue to upload to other peers.
  3. Leechers - If you disable uploading and you only download, you’re referred to as a “leecher,”



steps to download a file from torrent

step 1

go to a torrent website and search the file you want to download


step 2

select the file with the resolution and size you want. the seeders indicate heath of torrent so always go with the file the most seeders

click the open the one link you selected then click on ' get this torrent ' with the magnet icon

your bittorent client will open asking you to add the file and start download

you can also pause and resume torrents
