The lollipop has now flatter has shadows and is more interactive than ever there are many animations and use of colors in the UI. The whole idea is that the UI to be like a paper and the contents displayed as ink. This is the biggest change in the UI since the froyo. Many apps were updated before the launch with material design which gave an early indication of what the OS might look and feel (like Google chrome or playstand app)
- First thing you notice that's changed is the boot animation. When you boot up the device you'll see the updated boot animation it's simple yet beautifully made.
- The lockscreen was also teased at the i/o now all your notifications are displayed on the lockscreen which you can click and you will be taken in the app.
- From swiping from left you can access the dialer and when you swipe from right you can access the camera.

- The status bar is now dynamic the icons are more compact and when you go into an app it automatically adapts the app color to blend into the app
- When you swipe down you will see that the notification centre doesn't takes up the whole screen. It only comes upto half and when you again swipe down you'll get the all the toggles.

- When you're in an app which has taken up the whole screen (for eg: games) and you get a call you will get a small floating window on the top of screen so can choose to accept or decline the call and continue playing the game (heads up notifications)
- You can prioritize the notification according to time that means you can choose which notifications you get from lets say 11pm to 8am
- The new update is said to extend your battery upto 90 minutes (project volta)
- It includes the all new ART runtime which handles tasks more quickly than dalvik and the app scheduler API which schedules the wakeups of the apps so that the you get single wakeup of all apps instead of multiple wakeups
